“Why do you want my copy of Pride and Prejudice?” she answered as soon as I called her back. “I want to read it.” She snorted. “Why?” “I’m curious about it.” I pictured Hannah’s eyes lighting up, talking about it. There must be something good in that book.
“Where’s the first place you’d go if you got a sponsorship?” I lay down on my own board and stared up at the sky. “Australia. There’s a big surf competition there in January.” I turned my head to face her. “You’d like it there. They have books and champagne.”
“It wasn’t the magical experience that I always read about in books.” She covered her face with her hands. “Okay, I’m going to go die now. My funeral is next week. Please bring flowers.”
“I think you’re on a date with the wrong guy, Hannah.”
Kissing Wyatt was like sinking into a warm bath on one of those winter evenings where it rained all day, one of those days you felt like you’d never get warm again.
