But now the old Mediterranean world was being torn apart by waves of so-called Sea Peoples who came from the Aegean. In this storm of raids and migrations, the empires receded. The Hittites fell, Mycenae was mysteriously destroyed, Egypt was shaken – and a people called the Hebrews made their first appearance.
