When it comes to identifying the kind of society that we should seek to create for a happier world, all of the available evidence seems to support the Dalai Lama’s view: We must work toward building societies that maintain respect for an individual’s human rights and dignity, one that encourages cultivation of personal strengths, personal integrity, and self-confidence yet at the same time promotes a deep sense of connection to others and concern for the welfare of others.
