Traditional instructions for Right Effort are straightforward. The Buddha used the special terms wholesome and unwholesome to mean that which leads to happiness and that which leads to unhappiness. The guidelines are: Notice when wholesome feelings such as friendliness, compassion, or generosity are present in the mind, and encourage them to grow.
