At number 77 was a shop with a life-sized plaster Madonna in the window.

When I grew up in Brooklyn this type of little spiritual shop was very common, and always fascinating to me. My immediate family had no spiritual or religious practice and it was all very mysterious to me. My time in these stores was a large and wonderful part of my spiritual education.
