Recognizing this requires changing the narrative. As Daytner explained to me, she doesn’t tell herself I don’t have time to do X, Y, or Z. She tells herself that she won’t do X, Y, or Z because “it’s not a priority.” Often that’s a perfectly adequate explanation. I could tell you that I’m not going to sew my toddler’s Halloween costume because I don’t have time, but that’s not true. I have time. In any given week, I have 168 hours.
