Asher Dalton just gained a new best friend. Whether he wants it or not.
A concentration line forms above his brow, and then he starts writing. “Defenseman Josi ices Crosby and chirps Sceviour. DJICACS.” “Sorry, what?” “If you remember this sentence, you’ll remember the letters the intestinal tract starts with, and then it will be easier to pull the words from your brain.” “So to recall words, I have to learn … more words. That makes no sense.” “I tried to make it hockey related.” “All that really told me is you’re a Pittsburgh fan,
Damn it. I’m catching the hockey.
“This better work. Because if they kill each other, your dad will kill me, and then my boyfriend will dig me up and kill me again for leaving him.”
“Damn, the future doc has skills,” I call out. “I could skate circles around you, hotshot,” Kole taunts.
“You can go out with whoever you want.” As long as their name starts with A and ends in sher.
“Kole …” He cards his fingers through my hair and tugs me up to look at him. A weighted silence passes between us before he whispers one word. “Mine …” I nod. “I’m yours.”
Me and Asher, we were meant to end up here. We were meant to be together. Even when I first saw him and assumed “trouble,” there was always something there. Something that made me look a little longer, a little more carefully. And now that I see him … I want to keep him. Possibly forever. Definitely forever.
I saw a glimpse of the real you that night, and that’s what drew me in. I … I’ve been yours ever since.”
step closer, meeting his green eyes as all that syrupy warmth flows through me just from being around him. “Either you’ve contracted some deadly disease that’s messing with your thoughts, or … you’re in love with me.” The smile slides from his face, and he cups my cheeks in the way that I love. “Definitely the second.”
“And I have bad news for you,” he continues. “I think it’s contagious.” A shiver runs down my spine. “Uh-oh, I think you’re right.” “Yikes. Have we caught the love?” “Gross.” “So gross. And so you know,” Asher says, “I blame you for this.” “I am pretty irresistible.”
