Before I know what I’m doing, I kiss him. It’s soft and tentative, but then I cup his face and put as much passion into it as I can, without going overboard. My heart is in my throat, and I’m overly conscious of how silent everyone has gone around us. Beck breaks the kiss and pulls me into a tight hug. “You could have given a guy some warning,” he tries to joke, but his voice is all thick. “Like you can talk.”
“I fucking knew it!” I miss whose voice it is, but before I can turn, someone slams into my back. I immediately brace for a fight, but then … arms close around us. And another set from Beck’s side. Then another, and another. Are … are they hugging us? “The fuck?” I breathe. Beck turns his face into my neck as I feel the ghost of a laugh against my skin. “This is—” “Ridiculous?” He nods, but neither of us make a move to end it.
“Okay, assholes, sucking up to the captains isn’t going to get you out of a nasty practice next week,” Beck says. “And I don’t share, so get your hands off my man.” Someone laughs, and then Rossi yanks me into a headlock and ruffles my hair. “This is taking gay chicken a bit far, ...

Every time I try to bring it up, I chicken out and swallow his dick instead.
“Hey, honey? See the net? Yeah, it would help if you shoot the puck inside of it. Outside doesn’t count, ’kay?” I smack his ass as I skate past him and get in the team box. “You’ll pay for that later,” he says as he takes his spot next to me. I’m counting on it.
“Ask him.” “He says nothing’s wrong. Or he’s vague and then changes the subject.” “Then follow him?” I look at Zach with new eyes, and he blinks back at me innocently. “Grant’s gotta keep an eye on you.” “I don’t know what you mean.” I laugh at his innocence, still unable to tell if it’s all an act or not.
“What the hell have you done to your room?” I start to laugh. “I was trying to be romantic, but it looks stupid.” “Because romance is stupid.” “Your face is stupid.”
“We’re a team. We just established that. I won’t judge you for anything you say.” Beck cocks his brow at me. “Okay, if you want to teach aliens how to play hockey on Mars, I will judge you, but I would never belittle what you want to do for the rest of your life.” “Unless it’s aliens.” I nod. “Exactly.”
the door to my dorm room flies open, and my boyfriend walks in with two cups of coffee from the campus coffee cart. “Oh my God, I love you.” I reach for the precious, precious liquid. “Aww, I love you—wait, you’re talking to the coffee, aren’t you?” “I love both of you equally. Don’t make me choose!”
“I could kiss Ray!” Jacobs’s face screws up. “I wouldn’t if I were you. She probably bites.” I laugh. “I’ll kiss you instead and thank her later.” “That sounds like a better plan.”
“I’ll need to take your pitch to the board—” “Just know, that even if they say no, this is what I want to do with my life, and I’m going to make it happen.” A smile breaks through on my dad’s face. “I’ll push it through. I promise.” I can’t have heard that right. “Really?” It comes out a lot louder than I intended. “Your future is yours, so go live it.”
He turns to Zach. “Why did you invite the hockey players again?” “Well, technically,” I cut in, “he invited Jacobs because he’s Grant’s bestie. Which means I was automatically invited because I’m Jacobs’s better half—emphasis on better—” Jacobs shoves me. I ignore him and keep going. “And then Cohen …” I look over at our teammate. “Wait, why are you coming?” Cohen flips me off. “Grant invited me, asshole.” “Still don’t know why we’re going in one car,” Seth mutters. I hold my hand over my heart. “You love us. You really love us.” Seth glares at Jacobs. “Put a leash on that.” He waves toward

It might be true I still haven’t found another guy attractive, but Grant’s pansexual explanation made me do a little research. Which made me fall into the world of Schitt’s Creek. All I can say is, David’s phrase “I like the wine and not the label” definitely appeals to me.
“Did you ever get ahold of your best friend from back home? The non-gay one?” I smirk. He looks away. “He may or may not be happily engaged … to a dude.” I bark out a laugh. “God, I hate you guys.”
Cohen glances at Grant’s brother. “Please let me stay in your room.” “I don’t even know you,” Seth says. “I really don’t feel like listening to your brother have sex, and I just spent two hours in the back seat with Beck.” “Hey,” I complain. “Feel sorry for me!” Seth sighs. “Fine. I wouldn’t subject anyone to Foster and Zach’s sex noises, and I don’t even need to justify the Beck thing.” “Hey!” I say more emphatically. I point at everyone in the group. “You see this? This is why we haven’t been close the last three years.” Jacobs laughs. “Sure. That’s why. Has nothing to do with your annoying

“Turns out there’s a fine line between love and hate, and that line is blowjobs.” “Duh.”
“I did this,” Cohen says to Seth, pointing at us. “I started a game of gay chicken that neither of them wants to bow out of.” “We’re competitive fuckers.” Beck grins. “Though I’m actually gay,” I point out. “So does that mean I win?”
“Pretty sure I had just as much dick in my mouth as you did earlier,” Beck says with a smile. “That’s pretty gay.” Cohen chokes on his drink. “Okay, okay, you’re both the winners.” “What’s wrong?” I ask as Cohen’s cheeks go red. “You’ll make out with your friends, but you draw the line at blowjobs? You’re missing out.” “You really are,” Grant agrees, apparently finished with whatever mushy shit he was whispering in Zach’s ear. “You’re a bunch of assholes, and I hate you,” Cohen says into his beer.
“Now who’s missing out?” Cohen nudges Seth. “Chicks, am I right?” Seth gives him a weird look, and Beck cracks up laughing. “Keep going, Cohen. We’ll believe you one day.”
I love him so much it physically hurts sometimes, and together, we’re going to make this year our bitch. Because no matter what it throws at us, I know one thing for certain. I’ve already won.
