“Catamounts are extinct.” I mutter, “Like most of the professors on your campus.”
Oh, how the tables have turned. “Sorry. Can’t. That goes against the stay away warning you gave me the first time I ever met him. I don’t know which rule to follow, Seth.”
I’m certain she was in the restroom crying over her life choices because she took forever. If we weren’t in a tin can with no chance of escape, I would’ve worried about her not coming back.
My gut sinks as I snatch my glasses off and jump from the bench, looking for the guilty bird. Which is ridiculous because without my glasses on I’m practically blind. Well, to anything farther than a few feet away.
“No, I was bullied by Morris. Are you saying I should be stereotyping all hockey players as bullies? Because your brother plays hockey, and he’s never been anything but nice to me.”
“I think we can both agree you don’t need to put any effort into embarrassing me. I do it enough on my own.”
“Cough twice if you’ve been kidnapped and you’re under duress.”
Anyway, you get to choose your own label, your own identity, and if that doesn’t fit the mold of what ‘a gay man should be,’ guess what?”
“We love you no matter what, and as long as you’re happy, we’re happy. But if anyone gives you shit, we give you permission to … oh wait, we rehearsed it to say that Seth could recruit you to beat someone up, so … I guess you’re on your own.”
“How did a dumbass like me ever catch the eye of someone as amazing as you?” I snort and give him a little shove. “You really are an idiot if you have to ask a question like that.”
