Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel provided the “dialectic theory” that backed Marx’s utopianism. He believed that conflicts made the world a better place—that, basically, might made right. The struggle between two opposing ideological or philosophical forces—thesis and antithesis—would eventually end in a “synthesis” of the two sides, and that “synthesis” would be better than what had come before.
