Here is a business whose sole purpose is to manufacture the processors dreamed up by Apple or Tesla, or “fabless” chip companies like Nvidia and Qualcomm (“fab” being short for fabrication plant). Obscure enough that few outside the computing sector have heard of it, it has nonetheless pushed the boundaries of physics, in the process becoming one of the world’s most valuable, and most important, companies.
