“Hold the bike,” I say, tilting the handlebars to her. “What are you doing?” “Being petty.” The jackknife in my pocket has a hook tool on it. Kneeling beside the Charger’s front tire, I unscrew the cap from the air nozzle and use the hook tool to twist the valve out of the stem. Air hits my face in a loud hiss. I chuck the valve into the weeds, get my bike, and we ride away.
