But they are not attempts to ‘probe’ the mystery, they are attempts to present it, to give us a picture, to organize instinct into form, to explain by not explaining – which is the essence of poetry and the justification for art.

This acceptance, or patience, follows from the conviction that life is greater and better than the intellect allows.

but note this, other opportunities arise from time to time that almost don’t accord with the overall situation, opportunities whereby a word, a glance, a sign of trust may achieve more than a lifetime of exhausting endeavour.
