People have made us feel like we’re less than we are, and those opinions are buried deep in us both, like weeds. Every drop of self-doubt waters the soil, and once they start to grow it feels impossible to stop. But it isn’t impossible, it just takes someone to rip them out by the root, over and over if needed.
“You are the brightest thing in my life, Aurora,”
“Your attention is a gift, Aurora. I have no intention of not valuing the time I get with you.”
“God, Callaghan. Why do you have to be so freaking sweet?”
Don’t run away from the place that makes you feel at home. From the family you chose.”
He kisses my forehead. “I want everything about you, Aurora.” My nose is next. “I want your smiles.” Then my jaw. “Your laughs.” My collarbone. “I want the way you ramble when you’re nervous.”
“And I want to want you because you’re worth it, sweetheart. And you make me feel good, too.”
We’re both a little bit broken, both trying to be a bit better, and both just desperately searching for someone to want them for who they are.
My dad shouldn’t have let it beat him; he should have fought harder. Not because he’s better than anyone else fighting invisible demons, but because he’s my dad.
He’s mine and I needed him and he didn’t try and he didn’t even care. He served himself, his desires, and his impulses and he kept serving himself until the anger and the regret and the resentment came like a tsunami—and when he let the waves engulf him, he dragged us all down with him.
She makes me not want to be alone anymore.
“Are you going to fuck me against this wall because you’re jealous?” “No. I’m going to fuck you against this wall because being inside of you is the closest thing there is to heaven,”
We’re not miscommunicators, Russ. We share our secrets.”
There are so many things in our lives that mirror one another, and I need to trust that if anyone is going to understand and help me, it’s going to be her.
“How’d you know I wasn’t faking it?” “I’d have suffocated between your legs before I’d let you fake it.”
“You can explain to me how you think my six-five ass is fitting in this tent with you.” Her eyes freaking light up as she grins at me. “We always make it fit.”
“Tell me a secret, Callaghan.” He brushes my hair out of my face, staring at me like I’m the only thing he sees in this world. He doesn’t even hesitate. “I’m falling in love with you, Aurora.” Ten million butterflies. “I’m falling in love with you, too.”
It’s no secret that I love books. I love stories about people I don’t know, and places I haven’t been to. I’ve lived a thousand lives between a thousand pages, but no story, no life, no page has ever made me as happy as you do, Russ Callaghan.”
