In his extremely detailed philological article on the word pãnîm, Simian-Yofre has summarized these facts as follows: “Because of its ability to express feelings and reactions, pãnîm designates the subject, inasmuch as he turns toward others. . . , that is, inasmuch as he is the subject of relationships. Pãnîm is a term that describes relationships.”5 We can say that precisely with the word pãnîm, as the worship of images is eliminated, the concept of the person is established, specifically as a term of relationship.
