Because the very last thing I need in my life is someone who makes me feel like there’s not enough oxygen in my lungs when I’ve only just caught my breath.
“Tink?” Her voice goes even louder. I wave a hand over her. “Yeah, you’ve got this whole angry little Tinkerbell vibe happening. I dig it.”
I should stop. I should walk away. I should channel my maturity and not flirt with her by infuriating her. But I’ve always been a little reckless.
I want to know more about Winter Valentine. Like when that divorce is happening.
“I think I like you because you are a heart-stopping, jaw-dropping type of beautiful.”
And then he says, “I’m going to ruin you tonight.”
“That should be interesting.” I laugh. “Hope she’s not too disappointed.” But Theo doesn’t follow suit. Instead, he scowls at me. “I could fucking bury whoever made you believe you’re as unlovable as you seem to think.”
“What?” Harvey says over a mouthful of watermelon. “It’s been a couple of hours now. Are we all just gonna keep sitting here pretending Theo isn’t Vivi’s dad? I mean, look at them
“Watch your fucking tone when you’re talking to the mother of my child.”
Julia: I feel like you could be that guy who has kids cropping up left and right if you ever do one of those ancestry DNA tests. Theo: It’s not my fault I’m so fertile that no barrier can stop me. Julia: Gross. You’re my brother. That’s the line. Mom: Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
“You’re going to accept my help. And you’re going to like it. You might even thank me for it.” I nip her earlobe and lower my voice to add, “Like you did the last time I gave you a hand.”
“That’s her first word.” I stare at her in wonder. “Of course it is. What else would it be? And she’s been saying it all morning.” He turns his gaze back to Vivi. “Haven’t you, baby girl? Been talking about your mama nonstop. And who could blame you? Look at her.”
Winter: This job must be hard on you with your uncontrollable erections. Theo: The gym is fine. It’s living next to you that’s the issue.
“I love your lips. This smart fucking mouth. I like the venom it spews. I especially like the way it looked wrapped around my cock.”
“I’m done being patient, Tink. I’m coming for what I want. Right now.”
“Stop being so mean to me. It gets me hard when you’re mouthy. Makes me think of all the fun ways I could put that mouth to work instead. And I don’t need a boner right now.”
“He said, ‘Mom, I met her.’ And I said, ‘Who?’” Loretta’s lips curve up, her eyes taking on a faraway look. “He said, ‘The woman I’m going to marry one day.’”
“I want you unhinged for me. Just . . . disrespect me. Just for a bit.”
“Dr. Hamilton in the streets, filthy slut in the sheets.”
I straighten. “New rule, you only train people who are less pretty than me.” His eyes do a dramatic roll. “That’s everyone, Tink. You’ve ruined me. Don’t you get it? I only see you. You’ve got all my attention. Every last bit of it.”
“Te vivo, baby girl.”
“It means . . . I live you. Like I see you everywhere, you are in everything. Our connection is more than physical.”
Like I’d lie naked in the dirt for this version of him.
“Am I fucking you like a princess or a slut later?” And just before she kisses me, she chuckles and responds with, “I don’t care as long as you fuck me like I’m yours.”
I don’t even spare Rob a glance as we pass. I keep my chin high and my shoulders back. I don’t want to give him the satisfaction of acknowledging his presence. However, I do glance up at the handsome man I get to call my own. And as we pass my ex . . . Theo winks at him.
Then his gaze shifts over, to the papers he wasn’t expecting. The ones that detail legal name change from Vivienne Hamilton to Vivienne Loretta Silva. My way of showing Theo that he’ll never be an interloper—he’s stuck with us for life.
“That night, all the best things in this world came into existence. You. Vivi. Us.”
“That night we were reckless.” His voice cracks. “But god, I’d be reckless with you over and over again if it means ending up here.”
