“I’m sorry.” Theo is standing over me when I glance up. I swear I look behind myself to see if he just said that to me. There’s a deer head with a lot of antlers hanging on the wall. I point. “Why? Did you kill it?”
“Yes. They even taught me how to read at bull riding school.” “You read Bridgerton?”
Theo snaps his fingers over the table, drawing his mentor’s attention back to himself. He went from looking amused to downright murderous. “Watch your fucking tone when you’re talking to the mother of my child.”
She has no idea how to ask for help. And then it hits me. She’s had no one to ask.
And when I go to bed that night, the hinges on my door don’t squeak at all.
“What’s happening is Miss Independent met the treat-her-like-a-princess guy, and she’s freaking out.”
