Because the very last thing I need in my life is someone who makes me feel like there’s not enough oxygen in my lungs when I’ve only just caught my breath.
Tequila is not my friend. But for this girl, I’ll make an exception.
“Winter. I’d have properly fucked you in the back room of that gas station if you’d asked me.”
“I can’t wait to see how fucking pretty you look when you come with my name on your lips.”
Staring down at our daughter. Him for the first time. And me for the millionth.
“That’s a fascinating assessment, Winter. But I’m not pretending a single fucking thing. Because for a year and a half all I’ve had to do is remember you and me that night to be stuck walking around all day like this.”
This isn’t heartburn. It’s just me thawing out for the man lying in my daughter’s crib.
A happy little girl plays with wooden blocks on the carpet. Theo builds them up, and she knocks them down, laughing hysterically while he acts offended that she could do that to him. On the stove, a delicious aroma wafts from a large pot. Theo calls it “Brazilian Stroganoff” and says it’s something his dad used to make for his mom. And when I go to bed that night, the hinges on my door don’t squeak at all.
Okay, I’ve obsessed over it.
Based on what happened tonight, she’s not accustomed to people simply liking her for the woman she is. That makes me want to burn the world down around us to right the wrongs people have laid at her feet over the years.
Theo Dale Silva has wormed his way into my heart, and I never stood a chance at keeping him out.
With Theo, I feel the same way I feel with Vivi—in love.
“Dr. Hamilton in the streets, filthy slut in the sheets.”
Theo Silva barely knew me but never forgot me. He never gave up on me.
Haven’t been able to keep my eyes off that woman from day one, not sure who I was kidding thinking I’d be strong enough to start now.
“That night we were reckless.” His voice cracks. “But god, I’d be reckless with you over and over again if it means ending up here.”
