I felt it that night, a level of comfort I’ve never known. And now that feeling builds every second I’m around him.
I softly grip her jaw as I bend down to come eye to eye with her.
“We’re a team, Winter.” Her breath fans out over my damp lips in short, harsh pants as she stares at me. “A team.” I nod. “Yes. A team. So we’re going to have to work together sometimes. You can’t fight me all the time.”
“Because the things I dream about doing to you are horribly unprofessional.”
“You do know you’re in love with that girl, don’t you?” I flop down beside her and sling an arm over her shoulder, ready to get lost in the very best medical drama while sitting beside one of my favorite women in the world. “Yeah, Mom. I know.”
“He said, ‘Mom, I met her.’ And I said, ‘Who?’” Loretta’s lips curve up, her eyes taking on a faraway look. “He said, ‘The woman I’m going to marry one day.’”
“I asked him if she knew about this and he laughed and said, ‘Not yet.’”
