“A mile for a man is a yard for a tale,” the minstrel said. “That’s good,” Heden said, appreciating the quote. “That’s mine,” Renaldo said. “You’re good,” Heden said. “Occasional flashes of legend amidst a tempest of brilliance.”

“It means Cavall forgave her,” Heden snapped. He ignored Cadwyr and looked meaningfully at Squire Aderyn. “It means a man is better than the worst thing he’s ever done.”

For many years as an adult, he believed that an artfully dressed woman could be far more alluring and irresistible than mere nudity. He no longer believed that.
