In reality, she was a humorless soul, unformed, without a solid sense of identity or any intellectual curiosity, solitary to the point of being antisocial and in fact quite dull. A completely self-absorbed woman with no real interest in anyone else, she became one of the most famous neurotics of the twentieth century but was mistakenly perceived to be something of a goddess.
