They continued down the path in silence when Hermes gave out a sudden, high-pitched scream. Swiftly, they were surrounded by Amazons, their weapons drawn. Persephone and Hippolyta whirled toward the god only to find his hands balled up beneath his chin and one leg off the ground.
“Harmless? Harmless?” Hermes’s face was turning pink. “Look at my ass, Hades. Does this look harmless?” He turned to show his backside, which was covered in feathery darts. He looked like a peacock or maybe a porcupine, she couldn’t decide, but it took everything in her to keep from giggling.
“How do you decide which side to go up?” Dionysus asked. Hermes opened his mouth and then closed it before answering. “I never gave it much thought,” he said, his hands pressed to his head. “Fuck. How do I choose?” Dionysus gave him an incredulous look. “How have you lived this long?” “Hey!” Hermes said, pointing at himself. “I’m cunning!” “Sure,” said Dionysus, taking the staircase on the right. “And I drink water.”
