Impressed by the doorman’s familiarity with Leonard Bernstein, Chapman informed him that Bernstein had been one of the first established and respected musical experts to appreciate Beatles music. While many critics and much of the public had dismissed the British rock group as another of many passing musical fads, Bernstein had predicted that the songs of Lennon and Paul McCartney would endure. “And Bernstein is right,” Chapman had told Perdomo. “The music of the Beatles will someday be known as classics. They’ll be ranked alongside the great musical geniuses like Beethoven, Bach, and Mozart.
