In 1977 Dr. Dean Burk, former chief chemist of the US National Cancer Institute, and Dr. John Yiamouyiannis, president of the Safe Water Foundation proved that water fluoridation increased the risk of cancer. Their studies concluded that: One-tenth of the 350,000 cancer deaths per year in the U.S. are linked with artificial public water fluoridation.39 The U.S. Congress called for animal studies to confirm these results and the studies were released in 1990. The studies showed clear evidence that fluoride does cause cancer.40
