Letting go of our “tribal” egotism can become a spiritual process, which is beautifully illustrated in the story of the Prophet Muhammad’s Night Journey (isr’) to Jerusalem and his Ascension to Heaven (mi‘rj).7 This is a mythos; it describes an archetypal process rather than an accurate occurrence.
