Prayer is not what it costs us, but what it cost God to enable us to pray.

The prominent people for God are marked for the wiles of the devil, and we may pray for them all the time. Every now and again God gives us an alarming exhibition of what happens if we don’t.

We think of prayer as a preparation for work, or a claim after having done work, whereas prayer is the essential work.

Then why pray? To get to know our Father. It is not sufficient for us to say, “Oh yes, God is love.” We have to know He is love. We have to struggle through until we see that He is love and justice. Then our prayer is answered.
