My process involves a lot of trust because sometimes it involves waiting until I feel a spark (even as I'm approaching a deadline). The best advice I received was to get up, move around, and let your brain go into its default thinking mode instead of trying so hard. At times, our brains need this mode in order to problem solve and help us work through the blockage without us interfering! So, that's when I'll plan some time out in nature, peace and quiet, or even a distraction. Do something where you can switch your thinking mind off and see what happens. Just have a notepad ready; I've been caught off guard sometimes when inspiration strikes. (less)

There is both the experience and the present moment, and then there is the opportunity to unpack that experience and learn from it through the writing process. I often feel like I have a second brain going for how I'd describe something I'm experiencing. Of course, at times I need to mute this so that I can be in the moment, but it's often a fun exercise to be living it, knowing it may lead to some wonderful written work down the road.(less)
