I grew up in south London, did an English degree, and then took forever to start writing. The stories started to grow longer...and then the murders began!

I tend to write Victorian mysteries of a not-too-scary nature. I've somehow managed to have 3 separate Sherlock Holmes-themed series (why make things easy?). I also co-wrote the Caster & Fleet mystery series with Paula Harmon, and my Maisie Frobisher Mysteries series is a spinoff from that.

I write a modern cozy mystery series, Pippa Parker Mysteries, and my newest series, The Magical Bookshop, is a cozy mystery series with a touch of fantasy and magic.

Visit my website for book info, links to stories, and my blog, in which I ramble on about all sorts of things. Hope to see you soon.

Hi Nadine,
Thanks so much for your question, and I'm glad that you're enjoying the Maisie Frobisher books!

Your question is the sort which regularly sends me down a research rabbit hole (this happens quite often, particularly when I'm writing historical novels). So bhajis are called different things in different regions - bhajia in Gujarat, bhaji in Maharashtra, and other names elsewhere. From my point of view, Maisie begins her journey in Bombay/Mumbai, so she would encounter them as bhajis. But another argument for bhaji is that it's the most familiar spelling in the English-speaking world, and so most likely to be the one that readers will be familiar with.

Hope that makes sense, and thanks for getting in touch!(less)

The Magical Bookshop is open! Northern Soul is out today

I always intended to go back to the Magical Bookshop one day. Not to extend the series arc, which was completed with book 6, Fully Booked (see what I did there?), but to write a spinoff or a follow-on series. And here’s the beginning of it – Northern Soul! This is very much Luke andContinue reading "The Magical Bookshop is open! Northern Soul is out today" Read more of this blog post »
