"It is a novel I read after Grapes of Wrath and the others that may be more appropriate to high schoolers, but I read it then (pre-70s), and it showed up on "The Blues Brothers" List. I find it fits the description of this list better than Brothers K, a 5-star book I've taught, even. "

"This is Mann's remake on the old legend, and it is fitting. Another high school book borrowed from the Seattle libe, which probably helped make me into a German later in my next life. Hm. "Wow. Now this is the all time brothers causing lots of problems. Thank god, we women haven't those particular hormones at those ages. It works in this list and so many others. Of the list, this is definitely my favorite book, play, and a major segment of my many lives along with the 3-penny opera. "
