The Boy Who Loved Math: The Improbable Life of Paul Erdos
by
"This book is about a boy, Paul Erdos, who loved math but didn’t fit in to the world in the usual way. I loved it as much for how it showed how someone can make an unconventional life as for showing what it means to have a passion for your ‘work’. Kids have so much pressure to be perfect these days. This was a lovely book about being messily wonderfully yourself. "

Looking at Lincoln
by
"I love Maira Kalman's illustrations but didn't find the book inspiring at a kid level. He gets kicked in the head by a donkey, wakes up and decides to be a lawyer. Is that the recipe for success? Hmm..."

The Iridescence of Birds: A Book About Henri Matisse
by
"I bought this book because I thought my youngest would love learning about a fellow artist. I enjoyed the pictures and the story about art as an escape and especially how his mother introduced him to the wonders of the world through color and painting plates. Definitely for a younger reader as less depth than some of the other picture books we have. Clearly I am less visual than Matisse!"

Rosie Revere, Engineer (The Questioneers (Picture Books) #2)
by
"Any book about resilience gets extra love on my children’s bookshelf. This book introduces Rosie the Riveter as the aunt with a growth mindset to a little girl who has let failure and the view of others get her down. Loved the story, the punchyillustrations and the message."

"Shows the love of words and daily wonders that makes Pablo Neruda a great poet. This love translates in to his revolutionary poems towards the end of the book. "

Summer Birds: The Butterflies of Maria Merian
by
"How could a young girl disprove butterflies as evil? Careful observation. This book is in the voice of Maria Merian and an amazing testament to a young girl's search for truth and beauty with the support of her family."

by
"A child's eye view of being unconventional and the inspirations that made Einstein wonder about the world and try to find solutions or...better questions!"

Enormous Smallness
by
"A lovely book about the life of the poet. The book paints with words in the same way e.e.'s poems do and includes some lovely poems. "

Rad American Women A-Z: Rebels, Trailblazers, and Visionaries who Shaped Our History . . . and Our Future!
by
"The tone of this book is rebellious and spunky. Much is US focussed, which was harder to understand for us outside of the US but I loved the end which has a call for the reader to also "be rad". "
