Jenny :) I wish I had more to add!

``Laurie I know, I'm having trouble remembering scorned women type books too although there must be oodles of them.

Jenny I agree. I keep thinking of Gone with the Wind, but I feel like Scarlett did all the scorning. I'm sure she felt scorned, though! Maybe by Ashley?

``Laurie Now that you mention it Scarlett was scorned by Ashley, but she never exacted revenge on Melanie or Ashley, in fact, she more or less supported that family after the war.
But since she was a scorned woman I think she belongs on this list too.

I agree. She didn't want revenge on them, but she definitely was furious when she found out that Ashley was marrying Melanie. I think that counts!

``Laurie Thinking it over Scarlett could even be classified as a stalker. She only married Charles so she could remain part of Melanie and Ashley's life; and bearing Charles's child only sealed her place in their family.

What was so puzzling about her obsession with Ashley was once she'd attained the holy grail after Melanie's death she completely lost interest in him and switched her obsession to Rhett.
I think she's one of the most inscrutable women in literature to put it mildly.

Jenny That's a good point! I never thought about her as a stalker, but you're right. I never understood her obsession with Ashley. She never realizes that she and Ashley are nothing alike as he tried to tell her so many times. I always feel bad for Rhett.
Scarlett is a great character on so many levels; whether you like her or not, she is fascinating.
