I loved this one too Dorcas and really loved the BBC miniseries made in the 70's. I've only read it once though.

It's so hard choosing just one, i was torn between at least five.

It was very difficult for me too so I had to vote for the 2 books that I've re-read many times.
What other books did you want to add?

Oh goodness. Anna Karenina, count of monte cristo, the woodlanders, far from the madding crowd, a womans war, long summer day, summer of the barshinskys etc etc

I loved Summer of the Barshinskys so much too and since it's been 30 years since I last read it I think it's due for a re-read in the near future.
I remember we both tend to love books with a Russian setting. That's another great idea for a list too.

If I ever get all my books sorted out I'll have to make a Russian fiction shelf.
