"Waylander, the Slayer is my favorite fictional character. David Gemmell is a master at taking people with dark and tortured pasts and turning them into heroes. This book does just that. You would probably have to make a trilogy with the first two books but I think that this one is the best by far. In this one, Waylander is older (but still just as deadly) and trying to finally live a peaceful life. Otherworldly forces have different plans which pitt him against magic, sorcery, and an ancient type of warrior which melds men and animals into killing machines. They are to be no match for Waylander's silent and calm fury, however. "
