The Creation of Patriarchy

"One of the most fascinating historical studies of patriarchy; why, how and what. It's not a light read; footnotes are heavy and frequent. But I was utterly fascinated, and this is another book that changed my perspective on life and hierarchy. "

Pornography: Men Possessing...

"A Dworkin informed, enraged and inspired me like no other feminist author. Reading a chapter here, a chapter there may be all the reader can handle, but a single chapter provides so much food for thought and insight into something that happened to the *reader*, or something they saw happen, that it's more than enough."

"There are all kinds of controversies over this book, and whether or not Andrea Dworkin really meant that all het sex was rape. What I will tell you, as a heterosexual woman in a steady relationship for 15 years, is that while I never felt accused by this book, or any of Dworkin's other writings, as a tool of my own subjugation, my integration of the concepts of Dworkin's understanding of freedom of choice, power in hierarchy, etc., completely changed my relationship with my partner. This was a mutual change between myself and my partner after much discourse and digestion of all the concepts she introduces. Nothing has changed my life as deeply as A Dworkin's books, and I cannot recommend them enough. The myths about her and what she stood for absolutely break my heart, because of the obscurity they induce. My generation and those younger than me are largely, largely missing out on an amazing thinker. "

Refusing to be a Man: Essay...

"An interesting study of patriarchy from a male point of view. The damage is heavy and more obvious on women, but I have a partner, a son and a brother... what are the affects they may experience? What might I need to understand to understand them? I know they're not my enemy, that individual men are not my enemy, but the social hierarchy and resulting pressure is. It's also the enemy of my son, my partner and my brother."

"I can't think of any woman I would not recommend this to - not pointedly (though some, yes), but defensively. Knowledge is everything. Being able to recognise a verbally abusive person whether you're in a relationship or not? Gold."
