"I read the first book in this series for two reasons: my sister loved it, and I was intrigued that a Mormon housewife would write this after having a dream. How do you make vampires boring? Well, apparently you can, if you're a Mormon housewife. At any rate this whole sexy bloodsucker phenomenon has swept the universe.

Bella, the narrator and POV character, is a bore. Edward should be interesting-- the love of one's life should be-- and he should at least be an eternally tantalizing mystery like, say, Jay Gatsby. But no."

"Don't even get me started on this selfish, sexist piece of sewer backup. If you don't get why I hate it, I can't explain it to you."

Alice's Adventures in Wonde...

"Yes, I was forced to give it 3 stars because it's an undeniable work of genius, because the Tenniel illustrations are classics in themselves, and because Martin Green's annotated edition shows how much this book has drawn on western culture and has given back to it.

But there is so much cruelty in this book. Just about all the characters are nasty and unlikable, and even Alice isn't that nice. The death jokes alone I could do without.

So, a must-read... once."

"Everyone who hasn't read this book thinks it's about a lovable idealist charmingly tilting at windmills, when in truth it's about a pathetic, frightening, and dangerous madman. Like Alice, it's worth reading because of the contribution it has made to our culture. But don't expect to enjoy it or be moved by it."
