I'd say Martin Chuzzlewit probably falls nearest the fence between the two.
The bottom four on this list are cartoon novels, the top four are baroque. The Pickwick Papers is a long, unabashedly cartoonish novel. Its lack of pretension makes it charming and successful.
David Copperfield and Our Mutual Friend are among the best books I've ever read, and I would never actually choose between them - except here, for this list. Obviously.
