Judith Starkston Hi Susanna,
I like your choices on the Greek history list. I always thought D'Aulaires's book of myths was the loveliest and most readable for both kids and adults. I see Fagles's translation of the Odyssey. If you haven't read the Iliad in translation yet, let me recommend Stanley Lombardo's translation. The cover is weird looking--a scene from WWII--but it's really readable and a genuinely accurate reflection of the Greek text.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads I've read the Iliad - I think I picked a very bad translation indeed. 1930s "slangy." I'll keep the Lombardo in mind.

Judith Starkston I'm glad to have handed on the name then, because it would be a tragedy not to like the Iliad.
