"I was looking forward to rereading Stinger when it was republished for Kindle, and I was not disappointed. The author has a remarkable eye, ear, and nose for location. Having traveled in western Pakistan, I again found her prose the next best thing to being there. A text book for any writer on how to place the reader in an exotic locale.

Another challenge for writers is keeping conflicting motives and interests distinct, credible, and compelling...and Ms Chambers succeeds in spades. Stinger is a rich stew of competition between Americans, Afghans, Pakistanis, Russians, and Chinese, each with competing subgroups. Alliances form and dissolve, friends become enemies, nothing is certain save the need to keep a close eye on each of your companions.
