Flinders Petrie: A Life in Archaeology
by
"A useful biography of Petrie by a former pupil. I'd like to see a more detached biography of Petrie by someone who was not afraid to criticize him."

By Nile and Tigris: A Narrative of Journeys in Egypt and Mesopotamia on Behalf of the British Museum Between the Yeaa 1886-1913
by
"E.A. Wallis Budge's autobiographical account of his travels. I skipped the antiquarian material and read only the adventures in the Middle East. (The book is in the public domain so be careful to buy only a good new edition -- can't vouch for this one, but the edition by Hardinge Simpole is very good)."
