"Someday you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again." -C.S. Lewis ~I had this moment at the age of 21. I had $10.64 in the bank, my depression was at an all time high, and I found a very used copy of this book in our local book box. For about 5 years, I hadn't read anything outside of required university texts and I happily traded Narnia for a practically new bio textbook. That was that, my love for reading was reignited. This series is wholeheartedly a treasure and I always recommend it!~ Playing devil's advocate, my rating may be swayed by a huge nostalgia bias. It is the very first series my dad ever read to my sister and I as kids, and that is time I will always cherish. Secondly, C.S. Lewis is one of my favorite authors of all time and I enjoy many of his literary endeavors. On the other hand, this series contains amazing adventures full of complex characters, deep lore, and is great for any age. The real question is what doesn't this series have? Love, death, and war. Kings and beasts. Aslan. You can't help but love the heroes and sympathize with the protagonists and antagonists alike. As a child, I loved being engrossed in the magical epic that is Narnia- the world beyond the wardrobe. Now, I reread it and find myself feeling much more akin to old professor Kirke. It is bittersweet, a yearning for a time gone by and an appreciation for all the experiences the present brings. ~“Once a king or queen of Narnia, always a king or queen of Narnia”~" See Review |
