Samia No, I haven't read 'To Kill a Mocking Bird'.
But, I want to.

message 202: by Samia (new)

Samia Yeah, I just asked my Mom if she has heard of the book 'To Kill a Mocking Bird', and she said yes.
She said it is a classic.

message 203: by Samia (new)

Samia I'm ignoring that too, Casey.

message 204: by Samia (new)

Samia I really want to read 'My Sister's Keeper'!

message 205: by Samia (new)

Samia Did you know that Dakota Fanning is playing 'Jane' in 'New Moon'?

message 206: by Samia (new)

Samia Jodi Picoult is also a good author.

Samia Wow, Sathwika!

You are a devoted reader!

message 208: by Samia (new)

Samia I don't want to post the rough draft of my book on the internet...
I just don't think It's safe...

message 209: by Pam (new)

Pam Keenliside One of my students parents' just wrote a book called Running out of Summer. Although it is listed as YA, it's a good read for an adult. Greatg archetype in the style of The Odessey.

Almost as good as The Cabinet of Wonders by Renee Dodd, one of my former students.

message 210: by Pam (new)

Pam Keenliside Okay--a typo on Odyssey and on great--no extra "g." I only mention this as someone on this blog is a stickler for typos. I have arthritis in my fingers, so I make a lot of typos.

message 211: by Pam (new)

Pam Keenliside To answwer Casey's question, my seventh graders loved the Westing Game.

Samia Yeah, I know!
Dakota Fanning is a good actor.
Some people are saying she won't be good for New Moon.
I don't agree.
They should be happy that they actually found someone for Jane!
Jane is a hard character to match up.

message 221: by Fran (new)

Fran Requa I would like to add other books that I find interesting that are not listed on this list. Fran

message 222: by Amman (new)

Amman I've read a lot of the books in the list, but I must say, my favourite is Harry Potter. Personally, I don't see how Stephanie Meyer-she of all people!!!-got her name on the top when it's so obvious that she doesn't deserve it that a blind man could see it? I was glad-very glad-to see that a lot of people agree with me. Frankly, Stephanie whats-her-name doesn't deserve it and shouldn't get it. I'm very sorry to see that so many are reading her books which so obviously lack the skill and talent that is very clear in Harry Potter. Stephanie has no claim whatsoever to be on the top!!! Youth these days really have no idea of what a good book is like. I think it's a shame that Stephanie insists on polluting our minds with her useless junk. When more talented authors-such as the wonderful J.K Rowling-exist, Stephanie is going down! I also would like to mention my surprise that Percy Jackson wasn't on the list. OF COURSE it isn't NEARLY as good as Harry Potter, but still-I liked the series. It isn't a patch on HP-but coming from me, that's a big compliment!
My apologies to all Stephanie fans, but we each get a chance to express our opinion, right? Well, this is mine. And it's a very correct one. Look, Twilight and what-not isn't a "good read" at all! At any rate, I'm glad that Harry Potter was on our list. J.K Rowling deserves it. My eternal respect and admiration to J.K Rowling!!!
Also, I really hope that by the next newsletter, this Stephanie fad will be over, and those who-like me-remained immune to it, will have the opportunity to say triumphantly,"I told you so!"
P.S My best friend used to hate Harry Potter, and I despaired of her ever loving the series that captured my interest in the first few lines. I begged her to give it a go, convinced that she'd love it after reading it. She did, and now she's a fan as well. I hope this will help poor, deluded Haters of HP to join the ranks of well-read, smart HP fans scattered throughout the world.

Ugh, I would defend the Twilight Saga AGAIN but I'm so tired of defending it against those who dislike the Twiligth Saga, but it's very probable that some one will agree and if some one does THEN I'll post my original reply to this.

Stephanie Brittany wrote: "Not to say that you don't believe this, Stephanie, but we all have the right to express our own opinions. Everybody has their own perspective on things.

I'm sorry if I seemed upset or gave any air of not believeing that people couldn't express their opions, because I do believe that people have the right. Um, I haven't ever come arcross gross scenes but I'm also not aloud to read Breaking Dawn yet so I don't know the contents of that book, only a summery of it. As I look back on my reply now I've realized it was probably not the best and I apalogize if I have offened anyone or givin them the wrong impression, that was NOT my intention!

message 225: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I'm not sure which series I like better, Harry Potter or Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I've tried and treid to choose but I can't! To me, they both have different elements that make each story fantastic!

message 226: by Pam (new)

Pam Keenliside Amman--you must be a discerning reader. And to all of you out there--I am looking for Young Adult books for my 7th and 8th grade students. Do not recommend SM as they already read her. I got The Hunger Game from someone.

I'm just listing books that I think an 8th grade class would read but I'm not sure! Their's Artenis Fowl, Ranger's Apprentice, Fablehaven, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Looking Glass Wars,The Witch of Blackbird Pond, The Goose Girl, The Naming, Leven Thumps, Harry Potter...sorry if I'm no help...:'(

message 228: by Samia (new)

Samia No prob. =)

message 229: by Samia (new)

Samia Oh, I read 'Pictures of Hollis Woods'.
I also forget who it's by...

message 230: by Samia (new)

Samia I agree with you Stephanie.
I am soo tired of defending Twilight...
but I still will.
I didn't even read what Amman said anyways.

message 231: by Samia (new)

Samia We all like different books.
Enough said.

Stephanie Samia wrote: "I agree with you Stephanie.

It doesn't matter wether we agree with it...we'll just have to deal with anything people say that we don't agree with. As long as we like it, I'm fine!!

message 233: by Samia (new)

Samia You haven't read 'Breaking Dawn' yet, Stephanie?
There are NO gross scenes in the Twilight Saga, Britney!
At least Stephanie Meyer doesn't explain those parts.

message 234: by Samia (new)

Samia Sorry, BRITTANY.
Spelled your name wrong in the last reply...=(

message 235: by Samia (new)

Samia Well...at least WE know that we love the Twilight saga.

message 236: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Samia wrote: "You haven't read 'Breaking Dawn' yet, Stephanie?

No, my mom doesn't want me to read it yet.

Stephanie Samia wrote: "Well...at least WE know that we love the Twilight saga."

lol, of course!!!

message 238: by Allison (new)

Allison the reason I dont like Twilight is because of how much publicity it got (and that it is very porrly written), when Harry Potter got NO publicity until the 3RD BOOK. I also like the harry potter series better because they are more animated and has wonderfully written fantacy which is much harder to write than fiction or real world (aka twilight). But thats just my opinion

message 239: by Allison (new)

Allison Samia wrote: "I'm ignoring that Allison." very mature

Hannah Hear Hear!

message 241: by Marcia (new)

message 242: by Samia (new)

Samia Well there is nothing wrong with Breaking Dawn, Stephanie.
Trust me.
Stephanie Meyer is not the kind of person who would explain that kind of stuff.

message 243: by Samia (new)

Samia Sorry to break it to you Allison, but publicity is good.
And by the way, Twilight IS fiction!
No offence, but DUH!
Vampires are fiction...okay I take that back...

message 244: by Samia (new)

Samia Alison wrote: very mature.

Thanks, Allison! ;)

yeas fiction fantasy watever but my point is that its staged in the "real world" not a magical one.
btw offense has a s in it

message 248: by Allison (new)

Allison yes*

message 249: by Samia (new)

Samia Yeah, the 'real world' is better.
I mean, I have nothing against Harry Potter, I am currently reading the books.
But, Twilight is more interesting.
To me.
Oops, I spelled 'offense' wrong. =(

message 250: by Samia (last edited Jun 27, 2009 11:14AM) (new)

Samia Tell me how it's gross, Brittany.
Stephanie Meyer doesn't detail ANY bad part.
