I have read the Twilight books, and loved them. I have also read Dan Brown's books, all of them. I can't wait for the newest one to come out. So I just wanted to say that it has nothing to do with more insightful and fascinating books. It has to do with what you enjoy. I enjoy a very wide range of things.

I will never feel ashamed for reading anything that I have read. I am very proud of myself for the hundreds of books I have read. Twilight is at the top of my much loved books. My mom also loves Twilight and she is in her fifties. Do you think she is going to be ashamed of herself when she grows up? I think not.

message 556: by [deleted user] (new)

stephenie meyer is a shame how dare she make the worst books ever made

message 557: by Allison (new)

Allison hey guys? please don't fight!!!!!! we've had about 5 pages already of people arguing about Stephanie Meyer so don't start :(

message 558: by Jim (new)

Jim Shephard I agree with Allison. Everyone has their own tastes and preferences. Lets show a little respect for those who do not share our opinions. Their opinions are just as valuable to them. If we were all on the same page we would be reading Archie comics for a past time.

message 559: by Allison (new)

Allison thanks Jim thats exactly what i was trying to say

message 560: by Natalie (new)

Natalie I understand that everyone has their own tastes, but some people are saying that we will be ASHAMED for enjoying a book. That bothered me and I wanted to say what MY tastes are. I don't like being told what I will think when I'm older.

message 561: by Jim (new)

Jim Shephard Natalie, sometimes it's best just to ignore a comment when it makes little or no sense. Often one's lack of literacy is evident in the message they convey. It serves no good purpose to waste our time in response.

message 562: by Allison (new)

Allison it also keeps the fighting and arguing level down.

message 563: by Natalie (new)

Natalie I'll do my best :)!
So I have really wanted to read Rick Riordan's books. Can anyone tell me how they are?

message 569: by Jim (new)

Jim Shephard Has anyone read the "Inspector Banks" mysteries by Peter Robinson? Someone told me at a recent writer's conference that this guy really has a handle on mystery writing, but so far I've never heard of him.

message 570: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Allison wrote: "oh ive heard about them-- my friend really loves them but idk ....

Lynne Ewing. There are 13 books in daughters of the moon, and 4 in sons of the dark. You are suppose to read them together. like the first 11 of DoM, then the first 2 of SoD, then 12 of DoM, the the last 2 of SoD, then the last DoM.
I have now read the series twice, they are really short and only about a days read or less for me. But if you are a fan of young adult fantasy, they are awesome!

message 571: by Allison (new)

Dixie Enjoyed this list - I was surprised at how many I've read and enjoyed (and yes, I'm OLD!)
The list also gave me some new threads to follow up on - and reminded me of some authors I'd forgotten and will follow up on. C'mon guys, we all love what we love and it really doesn't matter if anyone else agrees!

HEy, I already had a debate with Russ, I don't think he's even reading this anymore so....yeah. I love teh Twilight books too I've read them like three times (except Breaking Dawn, never read that one). They're some of my faves. But lets just let the Twilight arguments die (everyone) okay? PLEase, I'm not trying to tell anyone what to do but still...just a request.

I read the Percy Jackson adn the Olympians series and they were AMAZING! I've read them al at least twice.

And my mom read the first book to the 39 Clues series (it's written by him Riordan) she said it was pretty good. You know you may like the Fablehaven series.

what are they about?

message 589: by Lbutler80 (new)

Lbutler80 The Twilight Series is not well written, but so what? It's great that teens (girls) are reading. The vampire series was fun. What about the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charline Harris? It's better written and more for adults.

message 590: by Amy (new)

Amy Russ wrote: "Again in regards to Twilight, let me put out another gripe in regards to the basic storyline. You have an incredibly handsome boy, with whom this young girl falls totally gaga in love. He's dange..."

What "strong, young female" in TKAM would you be talking about? Scout Finch? I disagree with your characterization of the annoying little girl. She is quite young and impressionable, and she doesn't understand much of what goes on in her backwards little town. Remember, Scout is an adult when she tells the story. Any strength or understanding that she evinces is that of a grown woman.
As for Twilight, granted, no great lessons to be taught with this series. The writing is messy. However, as a veteran teacher, if my students are excited to read the series, I am happy to encourage it. Then, it is my job to guide them to more sophisticated pieces of literature. Let's face it, Catherine & Healthcliff aren't the model couple for love and tenderness, but their love story makes up the classic that is Wuthering Heights. Sometimes a book shows us what NOT to do in life!
Happy reading!!! :-)

message 591: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Anyway...you knoew what just to be a tease I think I'm going to change my profile pic...hehe. Don't think of me as Twilight freak! I read PLENTY of other books! The Singing (one of the books I'm currently reading) is really good!

I'm not an "anti-feminist dreamer", but I love the series and so does pretty much everybody that I know. I don't like them for their "quality writing", but I like them because they are fun and exciting to read.
