message 454: by Samia (new)

Samia Wow, Brittany.
I'm really proud of you!
Standing up for Twilight even though you don't like it.
Thanks! =D

message 455: by Samia (new)

Samia Everyone has their own beliefs! =D

Stephanie Brittany wrote: "i'm just curious...not to be rude or anything...does anybody in this conversation support Obama? I think i should have asked before i posted that one quote and the story about the college professor..."

I don't. And that's all I'll say because well, yeah like I said I don't want to start a fight.

Stephanie Brittany wrote: "well said, nanci. it certainly doesn't feel like America anymore. i mean, what ever happened to the declaration of independence? well, as of now it's still here--but i think that the government wil..."

I know right. They might as well ignore it all, they already ignore parts of it anyway...that's all I'll say!

Stephanie Samia wrote: "Umm...thanks for the suggestion of the mormon books in the library thing, Stepanie, but i think i'm good for now! ;)"

Ok! What church do you got to?

Natalie Brittany wrote: "Natalie wrote: "OMGsh I don't know why everyone is totally obsessed with Twilight! It totally sucks. Put a comment on if you don't like Twilight."

hey! no more twilight! i hate it too, but, as m..."

Yeah, I just wanted to state that Twilight has been over obsessed by too many people. Yes, it's good and I am also saying that if I offended any people, I am sorry. I have many friends that like Twilight, and I only mean for this message to be commented by people who don't like it. But you are right. This discussion is now over. By the way thank you for commenting.

message 462: by Angie (new)

Angie McCrae I went against the rules and did my own thing. I voted for books I've read that I think are exceptional and that should be on everyone's reading list. But 18 pages are a bit much, so I'll have to come back another time and look at the rest of the list.

Julia Rose wrote: "There are so many great books on here, some that I've read and some I've heard are just plain amazing. Of all these wonderful books, the ones at the top are STEPHENIE MEYER?? Are you kidding me? I ..."

I actually liked Twilight when I first read it- it was sort of the guilty pleasure book. Not rich in plot, but I've always had a thing for vampires..

And then it exploded, and I sort of want to vomit every time I see a Twilight book, movie, poster, actor...anything.

If you haven't read The Host by Meyer, I do suggest it- it's actually pretty good. Again, not amazing, but I enjoyed it.

message 464: by Julia (new)

Julia Oh, I didn't even see these, I was just responding to a comment on the first page. Sorry.

Sarah Rose wrote: "Beebe wrote: "and why is she advertised EVERYWHERE?? It can't be because of her talent. Maybe she is independently rich and can afford ads in every medium including all the lit sites on the intern..."

It's sad that the ideal is Edward the sparklevamp instead of Mr. Darcy, who could actually manage a discussion of wit. Then again, Bella's no Elizabeth Bennet.

message 466: by Allison (new)

Allison do u know if central has Pride and Prejudice? I couldn't find it yesterday...

message 467: by Julia (new)

Julia No hard feelings, hon. I often have to avoid discussing certain things with my friends- religion, politics, etc- but it's a shame that I'll now have to avoid discussing a book. Still, to keep the peace, it's all good.

Oh, I saw someone mention Among the Hidden, and that whole series by Haddix. I'd like to suggest the book "After" by Francine Prose. I was chilled. Also try "Unwind", a new book by Neal Shusterman. It really makes you think.

message 468: by Samia (new)

Samia I go to Grace Baptist church, Stephanie.
I also sometimes go to Hope church, too. =D

message 469: by Samia (new)

Samia Do i have to tell every newcomer on here to stop talking bad about Twilight on here?!
Hallie, seriously.

message 470: by Julia (new)

Julia Samia, I don't really think we can actually stop people from stating their opinions, unless you actually enjoy censorship.

message 471: by Ruby (new)

Ruby Moon How about reading the "Guardian" series by Ruby Moon-Houldson. It's a vampire series. Reviews are being posted at www.bookreadersheaven.com right now.

message 472: by Allison (new)

message 473: by Samia (last edited Jul 19, 2009 06:25PM) (new)

Samia See this is why i don't get it when people use big words like 'censorship'??!

message 474: by Samia (new)

Samia Well if anyone is bored, you can always PICK UP A BOOK! ;D

message 475: by Allison (new)

Allison yeah that too.
hey wats censorship mean? isn't that like when u have to censor somebody or something like that?

message 476: by Allison (new)

Allison whats at the very top?

message 477: by [deleted user] (new)

the list ok

message 478: by Nanci (new)

Nanci Currently censorship applies to childporn. It appears to be 'ok' to pour 4 letter words across the airwaves and immortality through our TV and movie media. It appears that poor attempts at written expression(books, magazines) and art are 'ok', afer all it's just 'important that you are reading', right? It is 'freedom of expression' to burn or descecrate our national symbol. American Christians seem to be the only religious groups in the world who tolerate their Savior expressed in urine. It is 'ok' to portray all Christians as stupid, near-sighted and God-freaks. It is becoming not 'ok' to speak up for individual rights, as guaranteed in the Constitution, or to debate the possible consequences of proposed policies. That is censorship.
If anyone reading this post has passed US History at the high school level and does not understand the references above, they might also question whether the educational systems in this country are purposely not educating Americans about true American freedoms.

message 479: by Samia (new)

Samia Summer reading is NOT boring to me, Maddie.
This site is sort of for people who enjoy reading, and talking about books.

message 480: by Samia (new)

Samia I didn't mean that, Brittany.
You know that.
But, if you want to think that way, then sure.

message 481: by Corbin (new)

Corbin everyone should read percy jackson and the olypians.

message 482: by Kelly (new)

Kelly David wrote: "The Twilight Series is popular on here because there is no age limit on here and the votes all come from the teen set. There is hope however as my daughter is 14 and thinks the best book on here is..."

Personally, I think that Twilight is not only popular for that reason, but that people, of course, cannot relate to having a vampire boyfriend, but can relate to the feeling of love. I know plenty of adults and even pre-teens that squeal over Twilight. It's an excellent piece of writing, and it deserves to be popular. I agree, though, that To Kill A Mockingbird is one of the best books here.

message 483: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Stephanie wrote: "To people who hate Stephenie Meyer: You know...if you guys hate Stephenie Meter and her writing so bad why do you keep on bringing her up?

I definitely agree with you there on the Twilight series. If people don't like it, then they shouldn't mention it all.

So am I.....it's about 130 pages so far, so I've barely started, but I've had lots of fun writing it.

message 485: by Samia (new)

Samia Oh...
Sorry, Brittany.
I totally misunderstood you there.

message 486: by Samia (new)

Samia Wow, Kelly!
130 pages, that's great!
And having fun writing it is the best part!
When you enjoy doing something, it doesn't matter what people think about it.
It just matters what process you went through to write it.
I wish you good luck, Kelly. =D

message 490: by Samia (new)

Samia Brittany, try setting a goal for yourself each day.
Try to write at least one page of your story each day.
When you complete your goal, try a new one, and reward yourself with, lets say, a candy bar. =D

message 491: by Allison (new)

Allison i like the goal thing but i'm trying to write a book too and ur strategy isn't working very well. got any new ideas?

"The Twilight Series is popular on here because there is no age limit on here and the votes all come from the teen set. And everyone loves the book and movie.

message 494: by Maddy (new)

Maddy Walker Yes Michael.Yo do.Say for instence you like HarryPotter.Put that as a book to read.

message 495: by Shakhi (new)

Shakhi People should read CHERUB: The recruit (that's the first book).
Its really good!
Most people don't seem to know about it though =/
And its for all age groups :D (Sorta...Maybe not those under 11/12 :P)

message 496: by Samia (new)

Samia Well Allison, my strategy works for me, but if it doesn't work for you, then try this:
When you don't write at least one page of your story each day, then pinch yourself, and make it hurt.
If that doesn't work, then i don't know what to say.
You should enjoy writing your story, like me.

message 497: by Samia (new)

Samia What's idleness??
Sorry.
I guess i don't know as many words as i thought i knew... =(

message 498: by Samia (new)

Samia Why would you prefer laziness??
Sure, we are all lazy at times, but we should try to overcome that habit of being lazy.
Anyways, i just write because i love to. =D

message 499: by Samia (new)

Samia That's the spirit! =D
I think...

message 500: by Samia (new)
