You have a great point. The Bible is completely true where the 'Book of Mormon' is not.

According to ChatGPT when asked the question "Is the Bible a novel?":

ChatGPT
The Bible is a collection of religious texts and scriptures sacred to Christianity and Judaism, among other faiths. It contains a variety of literary genres, including historical narratives, poetry, wisdom literature, and prophecy. While some parts of the Bible might resemble elements of a novel, such as character development and plot, its primary purpose is religious and spiritual guidance rather than purely fictional storytelling. However, some biblical stories, like those of David and Goliath or the prodigal son, can be appreciated for their narrative qualities akin to those found in novels.

So...

We could debate this for a while :-)

Sabrina How is Throne of Glass NOT on this??????Sarah J. Maas

message 4603: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Sorry, I never read Sarah J. Maas' books. yet.
But I do feel that:
1) Knight In Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux is one of the best books written.
2) Ransom by Julie Garwood is another best book, to me.
3) Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros is another best book.

I can go on, but I think that everyone best books will be different; that what makes them special, to them.

Zofia Warwick HP Series over the Odyssey kinds of speaks volumes really. Over The Lord of the Rings too? What is this sacrilege? Also, Roadside Picnic needs to be better represented. It's a darn fine and very weird book.

Owl House is> than Porker because there's actual LGBT representation, no Cursed Child play, no human Nagini, an actually supportive mentor figure who isn't calm like Dumbledore, and no BS about wizards dumping on the floor. Also, Luz Noceda's mom is alive and Harry Potter's parents are DEAD!

message 4608: by Diana (new)

Diana We need to be cognisant of the period/s in which our classics were written, and the restrictions under which they were written (cultural, social); and then think about what they wrote - it's like 'wow!". And that’s why they are classics.

message 4609: by Jeffrey (new)

Jeffrey Gao Nah! The Worst Witch will always be a classic above Connecticut Yankee and Iliad beats both and Aethiopis should’ve survived.

message 4616: by JustFed (new)

JustFed Everyone has their own opinions; Some like romance, some like fantacy, some like historical fiction etc... To blame the list is like blaming the wall when you stub your toe. No one individual person can controll what books goes where in a vote; In the end it's decided by the majority of people on goodreads that decided to participate in the vote. It's just simple democracy. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, the whole point of reading is mainly for enjoyment. To fight and complain about what the majority has decided on. You are all entitled to your opinions of the greatest book of all time. (Or your favorite book depending on how you look at the situation.) Instead of complaining, I enjoy asking others why that the book they chose is their favorite. It's always interesting seeing another persons point of view. Don't get me wrong im no goodie-two-shoes by all means; But I just think its pointless arguing over something that we cant change.

Wrong! Democracy is the best form of government and all the opposition has done is be proven wrong over and over.

Diana Reading is subjective - and we're all different. We like what we like. And that's a good thing. It encourages diversity and discussion. If we all liked the same thing... it would be a very small library.

Don't get me wrong, it's an okay series for middle schoolers, but not good enough to be voted the number one book💀You honestly believe The Hunger Games is the greatest book series ever written? Hey, if The Hunger Games is your literary Everest, then I guess you really are living in the shallow end of the fiction pool. It’s sweet that you think a book where the most complex character development is deciding who can survive a buffet of deadly berries is the pinnacle of literature

It's the Ben Nevis of literary mountains, and I'm saying this as a self-published person. Mine are mere foothills surely, but I'm not challenging 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' or 'A Gathering of Old Men' or 'Anna Karenina' any time soon here. Suzanne Collins put in the work, it's enjoyable, but let's keep perspective here.

Zofia Warwick Liz wrote: "I came on here for book recommendations. Its absolute crap. Unbelievable that a recommendation site can't give you anything to read."

Trust me when I say that your best bet is to find a genre you like and search books. If there's an author that's been a hit for you it will recommend similar titles once you've added them to the library, so that helps.

message 4634: by Zofia (new)

Zofia Warwick No, Cassandra Claire does not rate higher than anything by N.K. Jemisin. I rebuke this list and hard. Sorry. I'm sure she's a lovelier girl than the Harry Potter toxic fandom made her out to be, but this list shows demographics of this site way more than it shows anything literary.

message 4635: by Zofia (new)

Too controversial since it depicts both polar bears and Lucifer. The list was made for the type of folks who think The Secret Life of Bees cured racism in America.

It's the Goodreads Suburban/Rural Housewives recommendations of those who never heard of Betty Friedan but definitely graduated middle school. And I've probably made more than enough comments about this.

These books have been in style forever and they get annoying after a while.
