Lexi Xox wrote: This list makes me dislike mormons.

I am in the middle of reading it. Why would you dislike mormons just because of a stupid list. You are judging us just because it is on the list or for whatever else dumb reason you have. That is sooo stupid. If we judged you by what books you read or like then that would be ... Never mind I don't want to be rude. But what you said was. I bet that if you met a mormon and you didn't know she/he was one that you would like the person. They are just people. Let it go

Lexi Annette wrote: "What are all the Mormon books everyone's talking about? A "bible" type thing, factual memoirs or stories of Mormon families, or fictional stories with the genre of Mormon type living?

Xox: why ..."
Well the books are the Book of Mormon and the Bible are pretty high up on the list so everyone is freaking out and saying they hate mormons and that we all went on got on goodreads and had a biased vote. Who would be stupid enough to even do that. We have never ever done anything like that goodreads isn't even that popular. ANd I agree why should that list make it so that Xox person to hate mormons . BTW it makes him or her look like a total idiot . NO offense to him/her . I do not mean to be mean but I am standing up for my religion.

b I am in the middle of reading it and that is totally true.

Daysha Paul wrote: "The Book of Mormon? You gotta be kidding me. I'd put "Where the Wild Things Are" as being more "literature" than that book.

I agree, this list is loaded and biased.

That is rude. That is very rude and it offends me for being a Mormon (which I am proud of) and for reading it. That is all I am going to say.

you know there are Mormons--like me--who read ever single rude comment made about us. We are just people like you. Whats wrong with voting for a book we love?

message 410: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey, all, we are all reading just books written by human beings who are often biased. No one has to read a book they don't like. If Mormons seemed to have "stuffed the ballot box" as some seem to suggest here, then so be it. But I HIGHLY DOUBT THAT-what motivation would there be to stuff the ballot box on a simple vote of "the best liked book?" I can see NO conceivable motivation to stuff the votes on Goodreads at all!!!! They are not cramming any book down your throat to read. It's a free country...read it, don't read it, like it, don't like it, critique it objectively, try to be respectful, and how about letting the animosity following through these posts drop. Don't read a book if you don't like it-and remember no one can FORCE you to read one you don't like just because they voted it "the best."

message 411: by Elaine (last edited Jul 22, 2009 09:06PM) (new)

Elaine WOW! I am thrilled that To Kill A Mockingbird is the top! It is my absolute favorite!! The whole Mormon and Bible thing...I'm not sure what to say- everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Those who like the Twilight books, more power to ya! I tried to read them and just could not get into them. If you haven't read East of Eden or Gap Creek, A Story About A Marriage- please take the time to fit them in! Also, if you have a chance to read any of Ellen Hopkins' books, please do!

I read The Shack as well and I have mixed feelings about it because I felt it droned on a little in some places but I agree that it was a really great book! It also makes you think!!

message 413: by Emma (new)

Emma Twilight?? Honestly?? Meyer can't even write, and she's higher than HAMLET, my favorite SHAKESPEARE play???? This is ridiculous.

Where's I Am the Messenger????

message 414: by Daysha (new)

Daysha I am so glad that Twilight is on the list! :) I love it! It may not sound good to you guys but you have to read it to understand it. You can't judge a book by it's cover. Or it's movie. I am really glad the Book of Mormon is on the list too. It's been around forever and lots of people have read it. Mormons or not, people voted for it and you can't help that.

message 415: by Lexi (new)

Lexi Oh my gosh Xox you are sooo imature. Mormons don't control the site. Goodreads isn't even that popular. Have you even read the Book of Mormon? I doubt that you have, you can't judge it just because it is a religious text. You are making yourself look like an idiot saying that you hate mormons and they haven't even done anything to you. You can go make your own list and put the books you would want to be on there. You are sooo rude . I am a mormon and I am proud of it. I read the Book of Mormon every night and am loving what I am reading.
And I love Twilight too. None of you could write a better book than that. If it was such a not so good book then it wouldn't be so popular and not so many people would be reading it. A lot of people say that they hate twilight and the book of mormon being up there. It may not be such well written books but people are loving them . They have a good story and thats what a lot of people are looking for. All those old books people don't read and so they aren't going to vote for them. See no offense but a lot of the readers are young and so they aren't going to read Hamlet or Shakespear. They are good books but people don't take the time to read them. They want the new books that are out. I do not mean to be rude I am just stating my opinions and facts. Thank you.

Huhhhh I am so SICK of twighlight and edward cullen! I cant stand it anymore really! these dimsided teenager girls no offense to anyone pick up this saga or whatever and go crazy its sickening and the book really isnt that good theyve just never read the classics or anything better

message 418: by Paulina (new)

Paulina ergh, Twilight? I do like Jane Austen, but second place?

message 419: by Lexi (new)

Lexi No offense but no one is going to read the classical stuff. We are teenagers come on. We are not going to go read Hamlet. Half of the teenagers out there don't even know about hamlet.

message 420: by Lexi (new)

Lexi No we don't it's people like you who make a big fuss over nothing. You are being immature. And you have to read the whole twilight series to really understand the books and like them. How do we dominate the site. How would we dominate the site??? Oh my gosh do you think that we would do that to you. * Said with sarcasm lol* What is your problem. Lol you are something special I have to say.

message 421: by Robin (new)

Robin I'm loving these lists - just more books to add to my 'to read' piles! Because each of us have different beliefs and experiences who can criticize another's favorite book? I measure my favorites by how often I re-read them, how deeply they move me, how often I think of them, and how completely they inform my decisions and affect my life.

But, also, some of my favorites are just for fun - those moments when I need to escape with a good book, a great laugh, an interesting plot, characters that I come to know and love. For me, the real test of great literature is how much I miss these characters when I close the final page! And how quickly I want to re-read the book.

Are you saying that you don't have time? If you balance your schedule just right, you can include other things that you want to do.

H.M. Tori wrote: "Where are the rest of the good books? I don 't even see most of my favorite books on here. And the book of Mormon is number one? I really don't think so."

Have you even read it? Because if you haven't: Read before you judge!

message 430: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't see my faavorite books here, even though they were bestsellers. A list is like a poll...it may very well NOT be accurate for the complete general public, considering who actually takes the poll.

Someone mentioned a moderator on the forum. I have informed Goodreads of some of the disrespect going on here and emailed assurance it will be looked into.

message 438: by Taylah (new)

Taylah Well, This is only a rough estimate of good books But the whole TWILIGHT saga is wicked and earned its spot on the list! :)

message 439: by Lexi (new)

Lexi Taylah I am with you. You would have to read the whole series and watch the movies and read also teh series more than once

message 440: by Elcubancofi (new)

Elcubancofi Many more books can be added to this list and I have not read some of the books listed here, so my opinion is limited. I am happy to find: WAR AND PEACE, DON QUIXOTE, LES MISERABLES, CRIME AND PUNISHMENT, which are some of my all time favorites. It is good that not everybody likes the same kind of readings, but there is something called quality which is a must for a book to appear in Best Books Ever. I find missing writers like: Stenhal, Mark Twain, Pasternack, Balzac, Proust, Pérez Galdos, and many more. I might like a book very much but that doesn't mean that the book should appear among the Best Books Ever, and the same for a writer.

message 441: by Zoë the Awesome (new)

Zoë the Awesome Okay, seriously what happened to the Half Blood Prince? Practically all of the Harry Potter books are on their but not the Half Blood Prince and that was my favorite one. :-((

message 442: by Exodus (new)

Exodus i agree with Kirsten. the whole Twilight saga really annoy me much. i know i can't ask people to have the same taste as me, but sometimes i really wish that we can get rid of all these Twilight things.

message 443: by Jaime (new)

Jaime Acually Zoe, The Half-blood Prince is there, I missed it my first time too

message 444: by Exodus (new)

Exodus can't we get rid of those Twilight books? they truly madly deeply annoy me. >_<
