I have not. Compared to this list in general, sounds groovy. Best book ever is "My 1991 Diary." I was very drunk all year, and had sex. A lot. Sometimes with other people! Of consenting age, I always checked ID and left info on my voice mail. (In case some perv kidnapped me. And every person listed in book.) And rated. All to the soundtrack of California's KROQ.

Mostly young adults with numerous accounts. And marketing teams.

Paulette Oh, wow...this list is embarrassing. Twilight, Hunger Games, several Harry Potter books....while some of these may be entertaining, they are not some of the "best books ever." The dumbing down of our society is truly tragic.

I’m not convinced.

Sierra Wilde I like the list. There are books I haven’t seen in a long time. It’s nice to remember a story where I felt a part of it. Some I want to read again, and revisit the time where I was so engrossed, I didn’t notice the time.

message 4410: by Fabrice (new)

Fabrice Del Dongo i'm laughing so hard, no book by Proust, Zola or Stendhal is on top 100, instead we have Hunger Games or Harry Potter... + the supremacy of english authors on this list bc ppl are too lazy to learn another language NOT bc these authors are the bests

HA HA HA thank you it made my day

We are all in agreement. Why is the most trash book with the most dangerous romantic concepts I've ever read sixth on this list. I'm frankly annoyed with the Hunger Games too.

Well I mean Goodreads is made by English speaking people and marketed to them so that's why every book is in English. I do think that people should try and learn new languages but it takes a lot of time and they get to decide what they do with their lives

Absolutely true.

message 4416: by Josephine (new)

Josephine The Shadow of the Wind needs to be higher. It's only because the author is Spanish and it's a translation.

message 4417: by Sara (new)

Sara The Bookaholic Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen is the best romance novel of all time no need to explain further

First, it's Hungary Games out of payback for that overrated pro-insurrection, anti-pacifist garbage stabbing me in the back! Second, it got ruined after Mockingjay. Third, DINOSAUR LORDS BEATS IT!

Definitely you don't know "Capitães da Areia" by Jorge Amado, or, a bit to stay in the genre "The Petaybee Trilogy" by Anne McCaffrey (because of this ones I was so so disappointed with the movie "Avatar")
The series "The Wheel of Time" where the characters are complex, evolve, doubt, just like any human being,
And if you really want the best book ever read the "Le Petit Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, a book for all ages, all genres and all colors and in a very simple and poetic way will pass one of the best lessons that life can give you.

Definitely you don't know "Capitães..."

I was sorta disappointed with the movie avatar because of Mononoke-hime, I read le petite prince when I was 11 and I honestly was bored with it, couldn’t make it through the whole book, I don’t think it is for all ages at all. Is Capitães da Areia Similar in some way to hunger games or is it just a book you think is good? Hunger games is a excellent book and I think deserves to be on this list just not at #1, with hunger games I feel how most people feel about jean dielman being #1 on the sight and sound poll.

I’m quite tasteless though and think the best books ever are the lord of the rings, dune, Persepolis, the outsiders, dune: messiah, marvels, and to kill a mockingbird. I’m weird and I feel like I like the kind of books filmbros like.

I do love fantasy books, not the kind of shinny vampires though, The Wheel of Time, if you didn't read it yet. As for Capitães da Areia, it's the feelings that it gave me, I laughed, I cried, I lived the characters, maybe it's because I'm Portuguese and I got nothing lost in translation, Jorge Amado won the Nobel prize with it and I promise you that it is not one of those "heavy literature" ones like "Cem anos de Solidão" or "Ensaio sobre a Cegueira", it's a small book, 150 pages maybe less (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...). Le Petit Prince, read it again, and 10 years from now again, you will understand what I mean. The Hunger Games for me, don't have depth, the characters lack colors, it's all too black and white, the good ones vs the bad ones.... If you love LotR you understand, if you have read Game of thrones too.

Yes, I think I see what you mean now. I haven’t ever read the wheel of time, I would add it to my reading list but I already have way too much stuff on there. I plan on learning French (I already know a tiny bit) so I might reread le petite prince sometime.

themysteriousbooklogger Damn, this list is old; point is, Hunger Games.
The best book I have read in my life.
