I AGREE! i literally could not believe that she was in the top twenty. like literal garbage. that new emo pop novel is taking up a whole spot for a book worthy of it. each genre should have its own list. the entire world is not going to be able to agree with just one book, if certain people only like certain styles or genres. this list and voting poll is stupid.

- The critics (they focus on the themes and symbolism)
- The everymen (they focus on the wish fulfillment, which isn't a bad thing)
- The underappreciated tropers (they focus on character, plot, and worldbuilding)

So which one(s) are you and why, and how do you gauge books based on taste?

I don't understand how The Hunger Games and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix are at the top of the list. They have surpassed even far better books in many ways, as well as insurmountable classics!

I'm sorry but I don't consider Harry Potter or the Hunger Games classics. Little Women, Last of the Mohicans, Withering Heights are classics.

I have never read Twilight before. Can you all explain to me why you believe Twilight is the best/worst book? I'm trying to decide on whether I should read it; it looks like one of those books I wouldn't like, as I am an aromantic and asexual individual, but what do you all think? (BTW, I liked Jane Eyre and almost all of the Jane Austen books I have read so far, and those have some romance. Is Stephanie Meyer's writing style and storyline anything like Jane Austen's, or is Twilight anything like the book Jane Eyre?)

I can't find it now, but someone compared Twilight to Wuthering Heights (it's referenced by Bella, and I guess similar? I never read WH). Also they hated it.

I would say check out the first book if you really want, otherwise maybe just watch the movies to save time? It's hard to recc something when one book is like 700 pages, and they're all fat.

To me, Twilight does not measure up.
I don't hate the Twilight series, but they had they're time. Now more people are reading authors like Penelope Douglas, Brittainy C. Cherry and Colleen Hoover.

I have read Wuthering Heights before, but I did not like it very much. If it was similar, I probably would only encounter more frustrations, but if it isn't, as Catherine believes, I still doubt that I would enjoy it. :p Maybe I might read a sample, and if I feel too tortured to finish, I could simply stop reading.

Have either of you read Pride and Prejudice and/or Jane Eyre? I loved those books, and I thought Elizabeth, although having flaws, was really powerful heroine, and I thought Jane was an interesting narrator. Do you think that Bella is anything like those characters?

As for Wuthering Heights I saw the movie before I read the book. I like to read the book, first.

I have read a couple of book reviews about Twilight, and I had a classmate in seventh grade who read it. It does seem like Bella would be a character I would be frustrated with. I guess I should just stick with the classics!

Or read some new authors and some great books.

Bella gets worse like every book. When I read them a little over ten years ago, I thought they were fine, but nothing special. I just finished re-reading them, and they were just ok, with the fourth book being almost unbearable.

I haven't read the books you mentioned yet. I know, I'm terrible T_T;;;;

Wow, is Bella really that bad? If you could describe her personality in a few words, what words would you describe her with?

Bella was a downer, especially in New Moon. I couldn't wait to finish that book. It felt like it went on, forever.

Yes, Edward is a vampire. He's like 100 years old lmfao.

They are fun to see how ridiculous they are. Like if I could write bad summary

2 - I'm sad my vampire boyfriend is gone, but now I have a werewolf. Also a vampire is trying to attack me. ALSO have you heard about imprinting....
3 - Nothing happens until a vampire shows up at the end and dies basically offscreen in a throw away sentence (3,5 is about a vampire and it's kind of pointless but kind of interesting to see an actual vampire)
4 - NOTHING HAPPENS: THE BOOK. A wedding that takes like two pages, and then they all live happily ever after. (hide spoiler)]

I didn't read the gender swap or the new Edward POV book. But I'm going to because I am trash lmao
