I actually agree with you on that Barbara, it is incredibly stupid. Everyone has different opinions, and who cares how many people agree on the same thing? It really doesn't matter.

I think so, too. I am technically not new here, like, six months in, but I forget about it, so I have no idea how most of this works, lol.

The check duplicates function is broken. When it's working properly, all votes on the same book (regardless of edition) will be combined.
You should contact GR and ask them to fix the check duplicates button.

I loved how Edward didn't eat but his gal loved to cook.

Hey...Chemical Brothers going on tour again!

The Hunger Games #1? Eww
Is it better than Les Misérables, Rebecca, Jane Eyre or Great Expectations...? What kind of readers voted here?

If I had the choice, the entire best list would go like this:
Harry Potter and the order of the phoenix,
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,
harry potter and the Half-blood Prince,
Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone,
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,
Harry potter and the Chamber of Secrets,
harry Potter and the Prisoner Of Azkaban,
DragonLance (Just because)
Ender's Game

But yeah, not that it'd make too big of a difference, but I figured, if you are a Librarian and is frustrated by the size of this list, now the check duplicate function is back working, so anyone want to diligently routinely check for dupes could do that, so it won't ever get to the hideous stage of having more than 7K dupes and breaking the function again.

Great way of showing what people like (and don't like, if you read the comments)

but then again, majority i rated 5 stars so...

Says a lot about the average user on this site....

Okay, I understand Twilight But Hunger Games? One of the best books EVER in HISTORY. Actually technically best three books.....

RIGHT ON!

There's a whole Twilight renaissance going on on Tumblr/Reddit/Facebook right now lmao. It's more nostalgia than anything but the fanbase is stronger than ever.

There's a whole..."
Why? I couldn't imagine wasting so much energy on hating on people enjoying something. Just focus on the things you like.

The amount of YA drivel within the top 100 is baffling. I feel deeply sorry for whomever is unfortunate to have read so little that Harry Potter and The Hunger Games are genuinely the best books they've encountered. Read something that could actually pass the Turing Test and isn't a shambling heap of cliches.

Okay, okay, stop right there. I understand, yes, that there is lots of crap on top, but Harry Potter? Hunger Games?
Nuh-uh.
These are some of the best classics EVER within the history of books. Yes, there are cliches in it, but if I were judging by books on that, I would never have read any books at all before. And yes, I do know that everyone has different tastes, but when you publicly call HARRY POTTER a piece of YA drivel, well, that I can't ignore.
So, how about you stop being an aloof twerp, and maybe understand that although you do not like the- wonderful- and- awesome Harry Potter that others do, and you should understand that and maybe not insult everyone that actually can appreciate a good piece of writing when they see one?

"These are some of the best classics EVER within the history of books..." wow. I don't even know what to do with that. You genuinely believe that Harry Potter and The Hunger Games are some of the best "classics" (which given that they came out within they came out fairly recently I don't think is appropriate nor will prove accurate)? Look, I think there is absolutely a place in culture for drab escapist garbage, and I don't want to shame anyone for enjoying it. Goodness knows I partake in my fair share of escapist garbage (in my case its shitty true-crime documentaries). We're all suffering under the same existential hell-scape of late-capitalism and sometimes need the literary equivalent of empty calories as a distraction. But that its place; as an indulgence, not at the very top of a list entitled "Best Books Ever" along with Jane Austen and ranking far above Nabokov, Orwell, and Shakespeare. Those authors change the alter we think. They not only provide an escape from reality, but a new way of apprehending it in the future. I think this is what Harold Bloom meant when he said that a work of literature can have "cognitive power." Again, I don't mean to shame anyone for enjoying these books. I just think that there's literature with far more to offer than Harry Potter when it comes to its actual impact. Then again, this is a list on Goodreads, so maybe I should just pick my battles. Enjoy what you want, but remember that reading has far greater capabilities than mere escapism.

In any piece of writing there should be a grasp of knowledge even a scratch volume has to be studied; even a yawn has a meaningful study on the reason one has yawn or has to yawn and the style of yawning would be studied and implemented!
I got to read how to yawn to differentiate myself from other yawners or generally!

That's an interesting thought and something that I hadn't considered. These works (and indeed their place on this list) are important as outcomes of particular cultural condition, and thus may be worthy of more careful study than I initially granted them.

Written simply to entertain? Written to learn from? Write to better our lives? What should be the criteria for quality?
I think novels score way too high on this list, while books that bring you lots of value for the rest of your life are obviously not popular here (and I don't mean religious books). Maybe such a list says more about the readers here than about the "quality" of the books.

seriously, jane austen? errughhh."
I think Jane Austen has written some pretty hardcore stuff... check one of the all time classics 'Pride and Prejudice'.

No shade. Just truth. Nothing really edgy or anything. I mean, how many POC are there? How many non-traditional canon are there?
I think there are places for these books...I love some of them...but lists like these will never interest me as much as they do high school juniors wanting to impress someone.
