HunterL this is a joke, right?

You have to seriously question the judgement of many of the voters

message 3902: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Kjelmann notre dame de Paris - Victor Hugo
The age of reason - Jean Paul Sartre
heroes and graves - Ernesto Sabato

message 3903: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Petrone As much as I enjoyed the Hunger Games books and the Harry Potter books, to see them at the top of this list is a testament to everything that is wrong with our education system today. If you have read The Great Gatsby, The Count of Monte Cristo, Lord of the Flies, Slaughterhouse Five, anything by Tolkien, Shakespeare, etc. and you still think that The Hunger Games is the best book ever written, there's a serious problem with society.

poisona I've read Twilight and Edward Cullen couldn't hold a candle to Edward Rochester.

Remember guys getting worked up over this "poll": I'd rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies. I agree this shouldn't be called the "Best Books Ever", as it should be "Mostly Read" or something along those lines. Again, 100 pennies. Lol.

message 3908: by Amira (new)

Amira Never have I had to make such a difficult choice....

message 3909: by Michele (new)

Michele Giacomini I think it's safe to say that democracy has failed on this one

Charles Reid Christopher wrote: blahblahblah
I disagree with a lot of this but the lit snobs who come here repeating what their high school lit teacher told them was good makes my eyes roll.

"The Great Gatsby" - garbage for power/wealth worshipping beta personalities.
Lord of the Flies- Utter garbage by and for people terrified of other people.. especially children. Stereotypes galore
Slaughterhouse Five- cited because it was the first science fiction the lit snobs were willing to embrace.. mostly because it is nonsensicle crap
anything by Tolkien- I love the LOTR world. I love the societies he created. He's also massively overly wordy and most of his books are lists of "this happened". Great imagination. Not great writing.
Shakespeare - he wrote the first soap operas. THAT IS ALL. If he lived to day hed be laughed out of publishers offices and sent to the days of our lives set. He wasnt good. He was pablum for the masses in his day. It took centuries of elitist intellectual snobbery to make this hack "brilliant"

The author literally cannnot form a coherent sentence......

LOL! you are right! They need to relax!

message 3913: by Justin (new)

Justin Strachan Proof that the word democracy is not properly understood. It for most of our existence meant chaos.

How very interesting. Thanks for posting that.

Hear hear, a friend, in reply to the question; 'what matters most? ' said; 'the relevance of literature.' He did NOT say; 'literature itself.'

message 3916: by Jiri (new)

Jiri Well another example confirming the Gaussian distribution applies to intellect, even among people that read the books.

message 3917: by Eve (new)

Eve Scofield I agree completely. Trumbo's book - I read it in 9th grade English. I still remember scenes from that book. It was outstanding.

message 3918: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Pieck This is like walking through the world's biggest used bookstore or garage sale: who knows what will show up next! It was also addicting ... I made myself stop after viewing the top 300 Because really? Who cares what I think? Nobody!!

message 3919: by Brian (new)

Brian I signed up for this site, poked around for 3 minutes, found this list with hunger games being best book of all times and i have now quit the site. At least I didn't waste much time.

I'm laughing so hard

message 3921: by Regina (new)

Regina Some people take this list way too seriously.

message 3922: by الحرة (new)

الحرة الأبية witch is the best , heart of darkness or the hunger games ??

message 3923: by Regina (new)

Regina i only vote for few and my interest disappeared when i realize my favorite ones and the best ones comes out to top 100 (or not even in top 200), seriously people. i'm disappointed that no Neil Gaiman book (even the beautiful Coraline) was at the top 100 (but i'm still happy for his American Gods tho).

i keep hoping right now that Either The Stand of Stephen King, and Fahrenheit 451 goes way up high to 1 or top 10

ps. i suddenly stopped looking at the whole list when i saw Twilight at top 100

message 3924: by Zay-Zay (last edited Nov 16, 2016 09:20AM) (new)

Zay-Zay Carpenter I'm rooting for The lighting thief (more of the whole series actually) but there are a lot of amazing books that I don't see on here. Where the heck is Throne of Glass? Red Queen? A gazillion other books that I cannot name on the spot for some reason? Wait- how the heck did Twilight get on this list?!

message 3925: by Samantha (new)

Samantha I haven't read about 90% of these (a couple I have been avoiding like the plague) and of the ones I have read, I hated about half of them. Also, The Lord of the Rings and Fahrenheit 451 are on here twice. Seriously, who makes these lists? The few I've looked at are awful.

message 3926: by Paul (new)

Paul Bolen Infinite jest 422...

message 3927: by Manfred (new)

Manfred Manfred Why does everyone like the Book of Mormon by the way????????

Do they think Joe Smith really got plates from his angel
Or do they just like the really old English

message 3928: by John (new)

message 3929: by Anh (new)

Anh Still don't understand why the hunger game is #1. Like seriously, you guy????????

message 3930: by Amber (new)

Amber Just think as this list as “the most controvesal books" for the people who say that the books on this lists should be put in "the worst books ever" list.

Michael Hemingwayhero Cormac McCarthy @#78, Hemingway at #94...Where' Faulkner??!!! Fut the Whack? This list is a joke!

message 3932: by Doubledf99.99 (new)

Doubledf99.99 the list is definitely skewered.

message 3933: by Cindy (new)

Cindy Wow why are you all so angry?? It's just a list asking for your opinion. It's not asking what book is considered a classic. Also, a classic doesn't have too be good to be a classic. It's about the spirit of the time it's written in. It shows new inventions and shows the influence people had on literature and vice versa. You're just pretentious if you're angry about people voting "best" for something they enjoyed most instead of your antiquated idea of "scholars decided so it must be". I love me some classics but that doesn't mean I didn't vote for all my favorite non-classic lit.

message 3934: by Marshall (new)

Marshall The Hunger Games as the best book ever? Give me a break

message 3935: by Unicsuibhne (new)

Unicsuibhne 50 Shades? OMFG.

message 3938: by Cindy (new)

message 3939: by josephine (new)

josephine My only question is.. where is Six of Crows!?!?!?

message 3940: by crabanna (new)

crabanna Tale of Genji ??????

message 3941: by Samuel (new)

Samuel Flanigan Leslie wrote: "Twilight is number 4? Give me a friggin break people!!! Entertaining? Slightly. A classic piece of literature? Absolutely not! "

So are you one to put Romeo and Juliet on the list? By the way this did not ask for classic literature just best by your opinion. And in my opinion Twilight is better than Romeo and Juliet.

message 3942: by Denis (new)

Denis Nikolov Don't you guys think that Harper Li's "To kill a mocking bird" is a little overrated?

(view spoiler)

message 3943: by diyyareads (new)

diyyareads Catcher in the Rye and Hunger game star such amazing books

message 3944: by Greg (new)

Greg Okay, I finally read Hunger Games. Yes, it's better than Twilight and the Potter books. But better than Gone With the Wind or Lolita? What are those letters....ROTFL.

message 3945: by Greg (new)

Greg Mark wrote: "Marla wrote: "this is the second list--worst books was the first--and i'm done. this is madness. i mean, how many mormons congregated to vote the book of mormon as a top 100 book? really?"

Haven't..."

In Utah, you can't buy booze, so that explains things.

message 3946: by Greg (new)

Greg crabanna wrote: "Tale of Genji ??????"

I'm reading "Tale of Genji" now! Fabulous!!!

message 3947: by Greg (new)

Greg Denis wrote: "Don't you guys think that Harper Li's "To kill a mocking bird" is a little overrated?

[spoilers removed]"

Oh, Denis, YES YES YES!!! And "Go Set a Watchman" proves the point even further.

message 3948: by Greg (new)

Greg Lilibet wrote: "Obviously, goodreads has a mostly young, not very experienced readership. It's become a cliche to put To Kill A Mockingbird on such a list."
Lilibet, To Kill a Mockingbird is probably the only other book read by people who've read the Twilight/Hunger Games series. TKAM is way, way, overrated. It's okay, it's fine, it's just not GREAT.

message 3949: by Greg (new)

Greg Cindy wrote: "Wow why are you all so angry?? It's just a list asking for your opinion. It's not asking what book is considered a classic. Also, a classic doesn't have too be good to be a classic. It's about the ..."
Cindy, I don't think anyone is really angry. It's fun to poke fun at books that are just plain silly. Like Twilight, which is a relatively funny sendup of vampire books, and Meyer has been laughing all the way to the bank for years.

message 3950: by March (new)
