Bella left Edward? Thanks so much, now I don't have to read anything in this series after the first one.

Don't get so frustrated over it. Contemporary youth is ignorant and easy to entertain.

Not sure that that's true. In many ways younger folks are WAY ahead of where we were at that age. (at least me) I think it's just that they have a greater visibility than youth used to have.
I recently saw a documentary on the UK in the 50's that sort of talked about the "invention" of teen-agers.
They made the point that teens were generally ignored as a group but that that started changing with the advent of the "bobbysoxers" of the 40's and the teens of the 50's and 60's. They attributed it mostly to teens becoming more affluent and marketing folks looking to cash-in on those "new markets."
I do agree that most youths lack the experience to really understand the viewpoints of others and haven't developed all the experiential wisdom that they will eventually be capable of... But that's promising, no?

Greg, well, I do agree with you, but age is not necessarily maturity. But yeah, the Book Fairy should visit them. Okay, fine. The Book of Mormon is on the list because to lots of Mormons it is important. Personally, I wish everyone was a Christian, but nobody will listen to me and I would lose all of my friends because I'm too bossy or not respecting religious beliefs. So I just am like, well, fine, you're Hindu? Great. Anyhoo, does anyone know why Twilight is so great? It is not. Maybe a good oh ha, this is so bad it's funny, but the best book ever?

No, the list says at the top, Best Books, so yeah.

Why do you hate a Wrinkle in Time? Personally, I liked it. The rest of the series was bleh, but the first book was good.

Perhaps it's because I didn't read it as a child, but the entire thing just failed for me. The synopsis made me see a lot of potential and it was fine at the beginning but went downhill fast.
For one thing, the characters quickly began to annoy the hell out of me. Meg was in a constant state of hysteria, getting in a flap with everyone over everything, and Charles Wallace was supposed to be 'special' but we're never told why. All they did was put an irritable old man in a 4-year-olds body. As for Calvin and the witches, I found them totally bland.
I was excited with the idea of them travelling throughout the universe but there was virtually no world-building. There was no imagination in terms of descriptions or development of the planets.
It takes a lot of tedious dialogue to get to the point where we're told this is a battle against evil, and all you need is love. The End. The villain is reduced to IT, a generic evil force. The whole thing felt so lackluster, there was no detail or emotion and not much plot to speak of. There were also religious references that came out of nowhere and then just disappeared. It sort of read like there were bits missing from the book, because none of the ideas were really expanded on.
The only part that I found interesting was the idea of Camazotz and IT striving to create a conformist type of society. But that kind of got swallowed up by all the problems I had with the book overall.
I feel a bit guilty shitting all over this book on a public forum because that's something I've never done before, but I just found it so terrible. Hoping I don't offend anyone, these are all just my opinions of course.

I also had a disappointed reaction to that book. Perhaps not as bad as yours but with all the hype I'd hoped for more. I hop you also wrote a review that you attached to the book directly.

Battle Royal was a book before it was a movie... pretty good one too.

watch your language, you kiss your girl friend with that mouth?

A lot of similar suggestions are on the list...kids books, pulp fiction...

seriously, jane austen? errughhh."
What's that supposed to mean? Jane Austen was an amazing author."
I agree, she is amazing, probably they forced to read it at school.

To many people, The Book Of Mormon is the Best, most important book ever.

Also, I love the Hunger Games and believe that it's an instant classic but I don't think that it should have been voted higher than Pride and Prejudice. I genuinely think, because of this, that a large majority of the voters on this list were teenagers who have not read any classics.

I'm amused by the warning at the top of this list: "Note to librarians: do not edit this list's description." Clearly I am not the only librarian in the world who would love to go in and note that this is in no way a representation of what it claims to be.
Hunger Games ... seriously? S E R I O U S L Y ?
Im not saying it's a bad book. But the best book of all time ... dont make me laugh.

Bill, I didn't even see that note. What's so odd about "Hunger Games" is it is the exact same story from the Japanese film, "Battle Royale" from about ten years ago. And even the endings (two people survive) are the same! But I digress. Congrats on you being a librarian, what a great job for a book lover!

Also, I love the Hunger Games and believe that it's an instant classic but I don't thin..."
Probably because some people say it was the best of all the HP movies.
Kervin, and Hunger Games is a rip-off from a Japanese movie entitled "Battle Royale".!
